Jean Pierre and Georgina, two youths residing in Malta, were selected by aditus foundation to particpate in the citizen panel in Romania. We thank them for their active participation and their feedback on the event. This is their story:
GEORGINA’S EXPERIENCE
I was proud to participate at the EU4GLOB Conference in Bucharest, Romania thanks to aditus foundation. This engaging 3-day event, hosted by Europuls, brought together youth leaders, and students from across Europe and beyond to discuss vital issues facing the EU today.
Together we delved into thought-provoking workshops and dynamic discussions aimed at enhancing youth participation and fostering a deeper understanding of EU policymaking processes. Networking with participants from diverse backgrounds and learning from each other made this experience unforgettable. It highlighted the importance of bridging gaps and empowering young people to shape the EU’s future.
We attended insightful presentations by the Funky Citizens Organization focusing on the disinformation narratives impacting Moldova and Romania. These sessions underscored the critical need to address misinformation as a means to safeguard democratic values across Europe.
One of the most engaging activities was a role-play exercise simulating an EU negotiation. We took on the roles of the European Commission, Parliament, and Council to debate and draft legislation on youth engagement. This hands-on approach provided a deeper appreciation of the complexities involved in EU decision-making.
This journey was a powerful reminder of the role youth play in shaping the future of the EU. Initiatives like EU4GLOB are crucial for bridging gaps, fostering dialogue, and empowering young people to take an active role in European governance. A heartfelt thanks to Europuls for their hard work and dedication. We returned to Malta inspired and committed to promoting active citizenship and European values through aditus foundation initiatives.
JEAN PIERRE’S EXPERIENCE
On 15-17 November 2024 in Bucharest, Romania was held the EU4GLOB project aimed at promoting democratic participation in improving policies for the future of the European Union in a global context where I was invited to participate for this exchange.
During this conference we had debates around:
the EU’s ability to act quickly and effectively on international challenges.
the needs and opinions of young people on the EU’s global level.
justice, rights and values of the EU.
We also highlighted the disinformation of young people.
In the issue of migration there is a lack of solidarity from EU member states, especially towards frontline countries. The structural racist discussion towards third-country nationals and also human rights and financial contribution to discord.
A resolution should be taken by EU member states and politicians to be able to improve the conditions of citizens where the aim will be to help and restore the trust of citizens in national and international institutions.
The EU for Global project is funded by the European Union through the CERV programme.
